The tale of Shelby Ranch traces back to Wilson Larkin Miller, hailing from Shelby County, Texas. Amidst the tumult of World War II, Larkin, at a tender age, corresponded with Vivian back home, their friendship blossoming into love through heartfelt letters. Despite the distance, they sketched out their future together. Upon Larkin’s return, they settled in South Austin, eventually acquiring the land that would become Shelby Ranch. Here, amid the serene expanse, Larkin and his family savored the warmth of summer under the sheltering embrace of live oak shade trees, which have grown and are among the preserved heritage trees at Shelby Ranch. Larkin’s passion for tinkering with vehicles and machinery was palpable, as he and daughter, Debbie bonded over restoring her first car, a ’65 Mustang. Their dedication and love endure, woven into the fabric of Shelby Ranch, a testament to the Miller family’s legacy.
